A Legacy of Excellence

The College builds on Fudan University’s long-standing strengths in information science and technology, with roots tracing back to the former School of Information Science and Technology, established in 2000. Over the years, the community has contributed numerous pioneering achievements in information technology and advanced instrumentation.

Established in April 2025, the College of Future Information Technology brings together key departments from the former School of Information Science and Technology, the Institute of Optoelectronics, and the Institute of Space Internet. Today, it serves as a leading centre for interdisciplinary research and innovation in information and aerospace technologies at Fudan University.

2025

First International Collaboration – Electronic Engineering Programme

A graduate-level Electronic Engineering Programme is launched in partnership with a leading university in Turkey, marking the College’s first bilateral international collaboration. The programme draws on existing bilingual materials and established academic exchange frameworks.

2025

Finnish Class Programme

A new graduate programme in collaboration with Finnish institutions begins enrolment, further expanding the College’s international footprint and fostering Nordic-Chinese academic exchange in information technology.

2025

Industry-Academia Partnerships

Joint laboratories and internship bases are established with leading industry partners. These collaborations bridge cutting-edge research with real-world applications, providing students with hands-on experience and creating a full innovation ecosystem from research to commercial impact.

2026

Looking Ahead

We can take you to some surprising places — from deep-space exploration and satellite ground stations, to photonic chips and terahertz imaging. Through our close ties with valued industry partners and our strong culture of innovation, we are well-placed to shape the future of information technology. As we often say: from “chasing light” to “harnessing light” — innovation never stands still.

Ever Ambitious, Always Curious

We conduct globally recognised research across three core fields: space information technology, photonic systems, and next-generation communications. These disciplines have received top ratings in the Times Higher Education China Subject Rankings.

The College is home to several nationally renowned laboratories and international research platforms. Our researchers lead major projects supported by national R&D programmes and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and have received numerous awards for scientific and technological innovation.

Through close collaboration with industry partners, joint laboratories, and internship programs, we connect cutting-edge research with real-world applications and student development.

Space information
Optical remote sensing, satellite ground stations, space-terrestrial networks.
Photonic systems
Photonic devices, advanced light sources, fibre and quantum photonics.
Future communications
Terahertz, 6G & beyond, network intelligence, satellite communications.

Learn. Grow. Lead

We offer a broad range of undergraduate and graduate programmes shaped by the College’s research strengths, preparing students to become future engineers, researchers, and scientific leaders.

Undergraduate programmes include Information Science and Technology (with a specialisation in Space Information and Digital Technology), Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering, and Communication Engineering.

With more than 4,000 square metres of dedicated teaching laboratories and joint degree programmes with leading international partners — including the University of Toronto, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, and the University of Turku — students benefit from a dynamic, hands-on learning environment.

Our graduates go on to pursue careers across leading technology companies, research institutions, and emerging industries worldwide.

International Collaboration

We maintain close ties with universities, research institutes, and enterprises in nearly 30 countries and regions. These partnerships ensure our research and education remain globally relevant and at the forefront of the field.
